报告题目:FLOW CHEMISTRY FOR CONTROLLED POLYMERISATION MONITORING CONVERSION AND MWT IN REAL TIME BY ONLINE NMR AND GPC

We have been using a range of flow reactors to carry out free radical, catalytic chain transfer polymerisation, Sulfur-RAFT and copper mediated living radical polymerisation. Reactions are monitored in real time using a benchtop NMR capable of recording a DOSY measurement in less than 15 minutes. This allows for simultaneous monomer conversion and MWt evolution measurement using just the NMR. The DOSY experiment in the benchtop NMR can be carried out at concentrations in excess of 10 mg per mL and we will show a “universal calibration” which is applicable to all polymers tried so far. The talk will illustrate the scope and power of this technique and how it can be used with machine learning to optimize reaction parameters.
报告人简介:
Prof. David Haddleton has been working in the area of controlled polymer synthesis for over 35 years since being employed at ICI. He received a PhD from the University of York in 1986 and spent 1 year at the University of Toronto in 1987 and 1 year at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1988. He has published over 400 papers and has a google h-index = 97 with over 30000 citations. He has graduated 95 PhD students from Warwick, including 8 who are now faculty members in China.
Liz will introduce the new Cambridge Materials journals, a suite of four new journals launching in 2026. Each journal is focused on a particular global challenge – circularity, energy, health, water – and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Liz will also present an overview of Cambridge University Press and open access publishing.
