报告题目:Fluorination of carbon materials and their applications



报告简介:

In this talk, I will present the fundamental principles, methods, and their applications of fluorination of carbon materials, and introduce the latest research on fluorination published by our group. Fluorine (F2) has the strongest electronegativity in the periodic table and forms ionic, semi-ionic (semi-covalent) and covalent bonds with carbon materials depending on the bonding strength, which has been studied in various fields recently because it can change the physicochemical properties of carbon materials when introduced to the surface of carbon materials. Various methods have been tried to introduce fluorine into carbon materials, the most representative of which is direct fluorination with F2 gas. Combined oxygen fluorination is the simultaneous introduction of fluorine and oxygen functional groups to the surface of carbon materials. This technique uses fluorine gas as a radical initiator to propagate radicals to the surface of carbon materials and oxygen molecules and then reacts the surface-activated carbon with oxygen to introduce fluorine and oxygen functional groups. In the case of plasma fluoridation, a gas containing fluorine element is ionised and reacted with carbon materials, and the effect of introducing fluorine functional groups and surface etching can be applied at the same time. Thermal fluorination is a technique in which fluorine gas reacts with carbon materials at high temperatures. This talk will provide a basic understanding of fluorine and fluorination reactions, as well as the properties of fluorinated carbon materials and introduce the latest research on fluorination published by our group.


报告人简介:

Young-Seak Lee is a full professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Chungnam National University (CNU). He received his Ph.D. from Chungnam National University in 1997 and was a professor at Suncheon National University from 1998 to 2005 and has been at Chungnam National University since then. He had conducted postdocs at Clemson University and had an experience as a visiting professor at Georgia Institute of Technology USA. His main research interests are in the field of energy and environment, focusing on the synthesis and application of carbon materials and surface treatment of carbon materials using fluorination reactions. In these areas, He has 30 PhD theses (20 completed), supervised more than 120 master's students, published 332 scientific papers, 12 book chapters, 7 technology transfers, and 80 patents registered. He is the former president of the Korean Carbon Society, the former editor-in-chief of the Journal "Carbon Letters” and currently serves as the director of Institute of Carbon Fusion Technology.
